The State of Qatar lies midway along the Western coast of the Arabian Gulf. The country comprises a peninsula of 11,437 square kilometres.

Qatar's modern history begins with the emergence of the Al Thani Family rule in the 19th Century. On 3rd of September 1971. Qatar declared independence. Since then, the Country has progressed steadily, fuelled in the large part by Qatar's development of its oil and gas resources.

Since the mid 1980's there has been a major breakthrough in the economic situation, with the discovery of Oil and Natural Gas, the World's largest known non-associated offshore gas field in Qatari territory; placing the country third in terms of world natural gas reserves.
Considerable resources have been invested in the development of facilities to exploit, process and export this invaluable resource. Additionally, the Government of Qatar has taken various measures to boost the production of existing oil and onshore gas reserves to substantially increase their output.

Doha is the capital city and seat of the Government. The Country's main seaport and its international airport are located in Doha -- The gateway to the rest of the World. It is the most important, cultural, commercial and financial centre.

The population of Qatar is estimated at over 700,000, the vast majority of whom live in and around the capital city of Doha.

It borders the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the South. The United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain are located Southeast and west of Qatar's peninsula respectively.
