The
State of Qatar lies midway along the Western coast of the
Arabian Gulf. The country comprises a peninsula of 11,437 square
kilometers.
Qatar's modern history begins with the emergence of the Al Thani
Family rule in the 19th Century. On 3rd of September 1971. Qatar
declared independence. Since then, the Country has progressed
steadily, fueled in the large part by Qatar's development of its
oil and gas resources.
Since the mid 1980's there has been a major breakthrough in the
economic situation, with the discovery of Oil and Natural Gas,
the World's largest known non-associated offshore gas field in
Qatari territory; placing the country third in terms of world
natural gas reserves.
Considerable resources have been invested in the development of
facilities to exploit, process and export this invaluable
resource. Additionally, the Government of Qatar has taken
various measures to boost the production of existing oil and
onshore gas reserves to substantially increase their output.
Doha is the capital city and seat of the Government. The
Country's main seaport and its international airport are located
in Doha -- The gateway to the rest of the World. It is the most
important, cultural, commercial and financial center.
The population of Qatar is estimated at over 700,000, the vast
majority of whom live in and around the capital city of Doha.
It borders the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the South. The United
Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain are located Southeast
and west of Qatar's peninsula respectively.

vertical nine-point zigzag interlocks.
